NAS JRB New Orleans is in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana and about twenty minutes from downtown New Orleans. Plaquemines Parish Public Schools has 4 school sites near NAS JRB New Orleans. Belle Chasse Academy is a K-8 public charter school located on the installation. Additionally, there are several other districts in the New Orleans vicinity that are available for families to choose.

Purple Star Schools

The Louisiana Purple Star School Award is provided to military-friendly schools that display a major commitment to serving military-connected families and students. The program is designed to help schools respond to the educational and social-emotional challenges military-connected children face during their transition to a new school and keep them on track to be college, workforce and life-ready.

 

Dress Code

Most school districts mandate student uniforms. Parents are encouraged to review their school's dress code policy to learn specifics. The Student Dress Code Policy is typically found in the Student Handbook.

 

Transportation

Each district has varied eligibility requirements for students to receive transportation services. Please visit your district's Transportation Department webpage to learn more. Belle Chasse Academy does not provide transportation to students who reside on the installation.

 

Charter Schools 

There is one public charter school on the installation, Belle Chasse Academy. New Orleans Parish is primarily comprised of public charter schools. Registration for charter schools in New Orleans Parish are managed by ONE App. On ONE App you can explore the various charter school options and register your child.

 

Private Schools 

There are many private and parochial schools in the NAS JRB New Orleans vicinity. Parents interested seeking private school education should reach out to the School Liaison to receive tailored information for their needs.

 

Homeschooling

Out of Zone Student Transfer 

Most public area schools in Orleans Parish have a controlled open-enrollment period where families can request a student transfer through OneApp. The Charter Districts have unique requirements for transfer requests. Certain school have strict enrollment periods -regardless of military status. Contact your School Liaison to learn more about the student transfer process.

 

Military Interstate Compact

The Military Interstate Compact (MIC) is an article of laws to help make transition easier for children of military families so that they may be afforded the same opportunities for educational success as other children and are not penalized or delayed in achieving their educational goals. The MIC provides support with placement, enrollment, extracurricular activities, senior moves and more! The MIC only covers students enrolled in U.S. Public Schools and DoDEA Schools.
