Exceptional Family Member Program

The Exceptional Family Member Program is a mandatory program designed to identify family members with special medical, psychological, or educational needs related to acute and chronic medical or cognitive conditions. It ensures service members will be assigned to a location where the special needs of the family will be met. Special needs include any special medical, dental, mental health, developmental or educational requirement, wheelchair accessibility, adaptive equipment or assistive technology devices and services.

EFMP provides integrated support for Navy families with family members who have special needs or exceptional family members. The EFMP has two main goals: assignment coordination, and assistance in navigating treatment and services.
